UNICEF - United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund.
Founded in 1946, UNICEF has provided aid and supplies in over 190 different countries worldwide. They've come to the rescue in hundreds of emergency situations to malnourished children and adults, providing food and water. They also provide knowledge that will further sustain the lives of that generation and beyond, such as the benefits of breastfeeding infants, and micro-nutrients. They say malnutrition is most consequential when pregnant women do not get enough food to feed both them and their growing baby, " Malnutrition’s most devastating impact is in the womb – when the foetus can fail to develop properly – and during the first years of a child’s life."(read more on their site.) Their headquarters is in New York, USA.
UNICEF's Mission, as stated here:
"UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.
UNICEF is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to establish children's rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behaviour towards children.
UNICEF insists that the survival, protection and development of children are universal development imperatives that are integral to human progress."
