Africa Prize for Leadership
In an attempt to forever end hunger, The Hunger Project issued the Africa Prize for Leadership in 1987. It was created to give credit to those who showed superior influence in the expulsion of hunger and to give Africa some form of leadership. They focus on several aspects of achievement such as science and education. The main point was to let the best people to control the situation effectively shine and be recognized. Because of this, Senegal was able to shake the devastation of poverty and famine, and was the first country to immunize their children.
The prize was presented to:
Abdou Diouf
Ebrahim Samba
Bernard Ouédraogo
Wangari Maathai
The prize was intended to improve the future of Africa, by giving the necessary people the power they need to make a difference. They did exactly so, solving the problem of river blindness, immunization, giving self confidence, and giving a voice to the people.
Through the years, there has been multiple prizes to honor even more people, and grow as a community.
